Climate Change Analysis tool

This tool has been developed within the framework of WASSERMed (Water Availability and Security in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean) EC-FP7 Project, Work Package 4.3 .
 

The Climate Change Analysis Tool on Tourism is a Windows Application developed using the Visual Basic .NET programming language. The database is developed in Microsoft® Access and is integrated to the software with the use of ADO .NET technology
The software requirements for the Climate Change Analysis Tool are:

• Operating System: Microsoft® Windows XP Service Pack 2 (32bit or 64bit), Microsoft® Windows Vista (32bit or 64bit) or Microsoft Windows 7 (32bit or 64bit)
• .NET framework 4.0 or above.

• A methodological framework for the analysis of climate change impacts on tourism
• Local and regional-level analysis to support the assessment of direct impacts
• Use of the Tourism Climate Index –TCI (Mieczkowski, 1985 ) to expresses climatic suitability for general summer tourism
• Correlation between TCI and tourism variables (e.g. arrivals, overnight stays)
• Exponential regression
• Use of a GIS-Based tool to support the spatial analysis of climate and tourism-related information

Two scales of analysis

• Mediterranean scale (Changes in tourism comfort indices for summer activities)
• Local scale (Assessment of impacts on the tourism industry ~ Potential and seasonality in tourism patterns)
