WP2: Eco-efficiency assessments in agricultural water systems and use

The aim of Work Package 2 is to develop two (2) Case Studies for meso-level eco-efficiency assessments in the agricultural water systems of:

The Work Package objectives are to:

  1. Provide measures of eco-efficiency in the pertinent systems, through the development of indicators relevant to local contexts and sectoral focus
  2. Identify technologies and practices which could improve eco-efficiency in irrigation water use (and de facto in agricultural production), and assess their performance in relation to a Business-As-Usual scenario (benchmark)
  3. Assess technology impacts across the studied value chains, emphasizing on system-wide environmental and economic impacts, and on costs and benefits for the different actors involved.

The research undertaken in the Work Package will also allow the testing and refinement of the EcoWater analytical framework, according to the sectoral, environmental and economic characteristics of the two Case Studies, thus providing proof-of-concept with regard to its applicability in agricultural water systems and use sectors.
