The WSM Prototype Decision Support System

This section introduces the prototype Decision Support System (WSM DSS), developed in the the WaterStrategyMan project. The implementation and integration of the WSM DSS was functional to the analysis undertaken in the Case Studies of the project, providing a framework for examining the applicability of dominant and shifting paradigm options in terms of effectiveness, environmental and economic impacts under different scenarios of water availability and demand. Additional features included the combination of the above options into integrated water management strategies for arid and semi-arid regions, in a context able to meet the requirements of strategic planning as specified in the WFD with special emphasis on economic principles, such as recovery of costs, and development of pricing policies.

The concepts, the philosophy and the implementation of the WSM Prototype Decision Support System are presented in detail in Deliverables 11 and 21.4 of the WaterStrategyMan Project.
