The INECO
Stakeholder Assembly Workshop
was held in Tunisia on July 15th-16th
2008, at the premises of the
Tunis International Centre of
Environmental Technologies. The
event followed from a series of
individual workshops, organized
in each region analyzed within
the framework of INECO from July
2007 to March 2008.
Each of these individual events
had as objective to initiate the
discussion on what the real and
significant water management
problems are in each region, and
how these can be addressed in a
desired water management
situation. Throughout the second
year of project implementation,
the participatory approach, also
supported by individual
consultation meetings and local
workshops, aimed at fostering
live discussion and feedback on
potential institutional and
economic responses for problem
mitigation.

In this framework, the INECO Stakeholder Assembly Workshop brought together key stakeholders from all the INECO Case Studies with the following specific objectives:
-
Presenting and evaluating the outcomes of the
analyses undertaken during the 2nd year of
INECO on the applicability of institutional and economic
instruments in each Case Study;
-
Sharing, exchanging and integrating experience
associated with the application of solutions across the
Mediterranean Basin and assessing the corresponding
economic, environmental and social trade-offs;
-
Deriving recommendations for enabling the effective
implementation of proposed instruments at both the
regional and national levels.
A total of 35 persons attended the
event, which was structured in 3 main sessions,
according to the specific themes dealt with in each
INECO Case Study. The discussions that followed each
session were aimed at clarifying issues relevant to the
outcomes of each Case Study, and highlighting
possibilities for implementing successful practices in
regions facing similar problems.
