The High Council of Water and the Climate has been created in 1987 to formulate the general orientations of the national politics in matter of water and Climate. Additionally, it examines and formulates its opinion on:

The National improvement strategy of the knowledge on the climate and the mastery of its effects on the development of water resources;

The National water Plan;
-
Plans of integrated development of water resources and in particular the repartition of water between the different sectors and the different regions of the country or of the same basin, as well as arrangements of valorization, protection and conservation of resources in water.
The Council is organized as follows :

Half of its members are representatives of the state,
-
The other half are representatives of various socioeconomic sectors

The secretariat is provided by the MATEE
