The ORMVAS have been created since sixties in the goal to decentralize the management of the irrigation.

The nine ORMVAs have the mandate to promote agricultural activities in the great irrigated perimeters of the Kingdom. In this regard, several legal texts have been implemented to specify their statute as financially autonomous public establishments, placed under the tutelage of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Their main responsibilities are to:

1. Study the enhancement of the agricultural value in irrigated perimeters, in the framework of the great hydraulic works.
2. Exploit irrigated perimeters
3. Frame agricultural production.

Other organisations/associations involved in irrigation water management are the:

• Organizations of traditional irrigation.,
• Associations of irrigators, which are established in irrigated perimeters for the promotion of the users’ involvement to solve problems of the network management.
