Population

The population of Egypt is estimated at about 74 million people in (2005) with an average annual growth rate of 1.91 percent (2005). The rural population is 58 percent of the total population. Overall population density is 74 inhabitants per square kilometer; however, with about 97 percent of all people living in the Nile Valley and Delta, population density reaches more than 1 165 inhabitants per square kilometer in these areas, while in the desert it drops to only 1.2 inhabitants per square kilometer.
