The following table illustrates the evaluation of the average annual water balance of Syrian water basins as calculated by the Ministry of Irrigation for the year 2003. The calculation takes into consideration the renewable surface and ground water resources as well as non-traditional resources and the utilization of water by the different sectors. It is to be mentioned here that renewable water resources and the Syrian portion of shared water are to elements of the balance that need to be recalculated.
